RECLAIM NEW YORK ISSUES FOIL REQUEST FOR HATE-FILLED STATEMENT BY ULSTER COUNTY EXECUTIVE MIKE HEIN

Statement from Reclaim New York Executive Director Brandon Muir:

“Ulster County lawmakers are considering a proposal to impose term limits on elected officials. Instead of welcoming a substantive conversation about reform, County Executive Mike Hein issued an overtly political statement targeting Reclaim New York to stifle citizen action. Hein’s statement was riddled with inaccuracies regarding Reclaim’s founding and mission. Spewing lies about an organization working to promote government reforms he claims to support is insulting.

“The County Executive’s office refused to provide Reclaim with a copy of the statement after multiple requests. Hein also failed to post the statement publicly. To force transparency, Reclaim has filed a written Freedom of Information Law request to the County Executive’s office as the first two requests have thus far been ignored.

“The County Executive’s fearmongering and hateful rhetoric distract from the term limits debate. Ulster County residents must not let political agendas and lies take priority over facts.”
