New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio just announced that the city’s five pension funds would divest $5 billion from oil and gas companies. He preposterously accused them of causing Hurricane Sandy, a position few climate change activists even take, in filing a lawsuit.
The suit aims at BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Exxon Mobil, and Royal Dutch Shell. The city seeks to collect damages to pay for its efforts to combat climate change.
In a move beyond arrogance, the Mayor ordered the Empire State Building lit up to support this effort. This amounts to using a New York landmark to push a reckless political scheme.
It was bad enough the Mayor is risking taxpayer dollars, and pensioners’ benefits, to boost his profile with radical national interests. The lighting move is pure propaganda that adds insult to injury.
Radical national special interests are driving New York’s agenda. Sign up, and stand up against them today.
