Reclaim New York executive director Brandon Muir offered the following response to Governor Cuomo signing the so-called “ethics reform” bill (S8160) today:
“This phony ethics reform bill was the product of backroom dealing, passed in the dead of night by legislators who didn’t have time to read it. Now, it’s been signed behind closed doors, 67 days after it was pushed through with a Message of Necessity to skip a three-day review period.
“Every step of the way Albany has stabbed New Yorkers who demanded real ethics reform right in the back. Their attacks on transparency, and abuse of the constitution, have resulted in laws that do nothing to fix the corruption that has led politician after politician away in handcuffs. Instead, they turned on citizens and made it harder for them to speak out.
“A dirty process like this will never yield clean government. Legislative leaders and the Governor should be ashamed of this disgrace.
